I will start my entry with a bad news.
My gong gong (grandpa) passed away on 23th October, 2008, Thursday at 6.50 a.m. He was 88 years old.
Well, this was what happened that day.
I woke up at 6 that morning to get ready to go and sit for my final paper. At 7 something, I received a text from my couzy asking me, “May, where you?” and I replied, “Oh, I’m in Bangsar going to my school for exam now.” I thought she saw me in Bangsar or something like that. Fine.
Then at 9.15am, Ann called me.
Ann: Hi May, what are you doing?
Me: Hi Ann, I’m in the study room now cuz later I’ll be having my exam at 10.
Ann: Oh really?? May, I heard the news from my mum. She called me just now.
Me: HUH?? What news??
Ann: Errrr…. YOUR DAD STRIKE LOTTERY!!
Me: WHAT?? REALLY?? OH OKOK!!
Ann: May I need to go now, talk later k, bye!
Me: Aye, Bye!
Then I tried calling my dad’s cell and my mum’s cell. Dad’s engaged, mum’s not answering. Fine.
Suddenly Ann’s mum called me.

Suddenly Ann’s mum called me.
Aunty YC: May, just now Ann called you izit?
Me: Yessss…… and she told me something.
Aunty YC: What she told you? She told you that your dad kena lottery izit??
Me: ermmm…. YA!
Aunty YC: That girl ar! She didn’t know what to say. Your dad didn’t strike lottery La!
Me: OH…okok…
Aunty YC: Actually I want to ask you, when is your mum’s birthday?
Me: Oh, on the 28th this month.
Aunty YC: So are you coming back this week?
Me: Yes, will be coming back for good this Saturday dee…
Aunty YC: Good Good, ok then, talk to you later, bye.
Me: Bye.
Then I went into the exam hall and sat for my 3 hours paper. Whatever I studied yesterday all came out. I MEAN ALLL!!! I was too happy till I need to calm myself down to focus on answering all the questions.
Right after the 3 whole freezing hours in the exam hall, I came out and my bf kept telling me that he is very proud of me and all and that I already did my best. GOOD! I was really happy cuz I finally finished my associate paper. At that time, KL was JAMMED! So we decided to go to Brickfields to have our lunch, then go home to put our things down and later only go to Sunway Pyramid.
While we were stucked in the jam in KL Central, I decided to give a call to my dad and tell him about the paper.

The phone rang.
Dad: Hello girl, how was your paper?
Me: It was GREAT!! Everything came out! Haha! I’m so happy. Now I’ll be going to have my lunch la.
Dad: Oh. Good. After lunch, I think you need to drive back.
Me: Huh? Why ya?
Dad: Er, girl, you need to be steady ok.
Me: (heart beating fast) Errrr, ok… I’m steady.
Dad: Gong gong passed away this morning…
Me: …………. What happened?
Dad: Around 6 am gong gong had difficulty in breathing. Then, 50 minutes later he went off peacefully.
Me: (controlling myself). Oh…. Alright, I’ll come back right after my lunch.
Dad: You take care and drive slowly alright.
Me: Okay.
I kept asking myself why didn’t they tell me what had happened at that time?
If I would have known, I can perhaps get to talk to my gong gong for the last time.
And the worst thing is that I was wearing a red shirt which I always call it my “LUCKY” shirt for my exam. At that point of time, I just couldn’t wait to get it out from me.
HOW CAN ALL THIS HAPPEN TO ME?
I was supposed to be back to Ipoh for good and get to spend time with my grandparents but now, it’s all too late. I still remember very clearly when I called back 3 weeks ago and talked to my grandpa, he said that he is looking forward for me to come back and he will be waiting for me to be back and asked me to study hard. And he said thank you to me and good night. That was the last time talk to him.
I still remember,
He taught me how to shake hand when I did something wrong which means that I want to make peace.
He taught me how to whistle.
He cooked maggi mee for me when I’m young
He walked me to school everyday and fetch me home.
He always cheer me up when I’m down.
He used to call my sis, me and sometimes shel to have a drink of MILO with him for supper.
There are so much to say about him. I can talk about him for many many many years…
Things aren’t the way they used to be anymore. The whole house is so quiet without him. Anywhere I go I’ll think of him. I guess I need to try my very best to adapt to the changes.
